Are ALL the staff at the East Coast Adventure vetted under access NI?
All East Coast Adventure staff, from Instructors to domestic, admin and bus drivers are all vetted under Access NI.
Are all the staff suitably trained and qualified?
All East Coast Adventure instructors are fully trained in child protection, food hygiene, first aid and all activities they are instructing. All our admin, domestic and bus drivers are also trained in first aid and child protection.
Does the centre own the residential facilities?
In 1999 East Coast Adventure built Knockbarragh, the Mountain Centre. The centre was purpose built with youth groups and adventure programmes in mind.
How long has the centre been established what is its safety record?
East Coast Adventure has been in operation since 1992 and have had no major incidents in that time.
How many people does the centre employ and for how long have the key staff been working for the centre?
East Coast Adventure currently employ 13 staff with additional seasonal teams that are employed from May – September to cover the peak months.

Are the staff that will be working with my group full time staff or part time freelance?
East Coast Adventure have a large team of core staff at the centre. Occasionally, due to high volumes of groups, we do take in freelance staff, however these freelance staff work with us on a regular basis and know our operation inside out.
Does the centre have transport?
East Coast Adventure have two 17 Seat Mini Buses.
How many activities can we expect to take part in a day and for how long does each activity last?
At East Coast Adventure each session will take up the morning, afternoon or evening with no breaks. We don’t have any time where your group will be hanging around. However, if you wish to incorporate some of your own programme, we can build activities around this to suit.
Are evening activities included in the price?
Yes, evening activities are included in all programmes as standard which take place at the centre. Additional costs may arise if using an outside facility eg. Fun house, Indoor karting or the cinema.
Does a member of staff stay at the centre at outside session time and through the night?
At East Coast Adventure when you arrive you are allocated a course co-ordinator that will be there for you through the duration of your stay. We also provide a Duty Instructor (DI) service. This “DI” will stay on site over night and assist you with getting your group through supper, free time and settled to bed. The DI will also look after security and any issues that arise during the night. The DI will also be the first person up in the morning and will assist in getting the group up and in for breakfast.
Are group leaders required to go on sessions or can they relax?
At East Coast Adventure we are quite happy to look after your group during session time and allow you to have a break or just take a few pictures. The job of a group leader isn’t easy; we try to make it as enjoyable an experience as possible. That said, we would love you to get involved and always encourage it.
How far is East Coast Adventure from the nearest hospital or doctor?
East Coast Adventure are 5 minutes to the nearest Doctor and 15 minutes to the nearest Accident and Emergency hospital. Newry and Mourne are also covered with an acute Doctor on Call and 24hr GP service situated in Daisy Hill Hospital.
How far is the centre from the nearest bus and train station?
East Coast Adventure is 15 minutes away from Newry. Newry can be reached by bus and train from all over Ireland.
Can the programme be customised to suit your group and can it be changed at the last minute to suit your group?
At East Coast Adventure, we take a very flexible approach to our programmes. All groups are different and have different needs. If you wish to change your programme at any time we will do our best to accommodate you.
Is there mobile phone coverage and is there a phone on site?
At East Coast Adventure centre we do have mobile coverage on most major networks. Because we are in the mountains it can sometimes be limited, but most people can always send and receive SMS and MMS messages. We also have a pay phone in the main hall that can be used to contact groups around the clock 0044 (0) 28 417 38516
Where do the activities take place?
At East Coast Adventure we do have some activities on site and we also make use of a large shed in bad weather for indoor and evening games, However being based in the Mourne Mountains on the shores of Carlingford Lough, we do our best to take full advantage of the fantastic natural playground on our door step. We kayak on the Lough, we boulder in the rivers and we climb on real cliffs in the mountains. There is no subject for the real thing.
How much can I expect to pay?
At East Coast Adventure it depends on your programme. We are competitive and try to be as flexible as possible to fit your budget. Chances are you might find a cheaper centre out there, but ask them the questions above before you make your decision.
